Akeredolu, Transport Minister, others for Press Week Symposium on Tuesday, as Ondo NUJ gifts Children’s Centre food stuff

ONDO NUJ GIFTS CHILDREN CENTRE

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ondo State Council has donated food items and toiletries to inmates of the state children correctional centre Akure.

The gesture is part of activities to celebrate the nuj 2022 press week.

Leading a team of journalists to the home, the chairman nuj Ondo State prince leke Adegbite said the union have identified with the vulnerable to celebrate with them.

Prince Adegbite while empathizing with the inmates encourage them to keep hope alive for a brighter future.

He called on government to intensify effort in implementing policies that would further reduce hunger and crime rate in the land.

Responding the senior special assistant to Governor oluwarotimi AKEREDOLU on women affairs Mrs Kehinde Adeniran thank the union for identifying with the children saying government alone cannot do alone.

Also in his words the director of social welfare ministry of women affairs Mr Adebayo oyegunwa said plans are on the way evacuate vulnerable children roaming the streets of State for proper rehabilitation.

NUJ ORGANISES FREE HEALTH CARE FOR MEMBERS

The need for journalists to give priority to their health has been emphasised.

During the health outreach

This came to fore as the Nigeria union of journalists NUJ Ondo State Council organised a free medical checkup for her members as part of activities for the 2022 nuj  press week.

As early as 9 o’clock in morning members of the union alongside their spouses were seen at the secretariat to have their health status checked.

Part of the health services carried out include blood pressure check, blood sugar check, general health talk.

NUJ Chairman Prince Leke Adegbite said most journalists are overwhelmed with work and have little time to check their health, noting that over 110 journalists and their spouses benefitted.

Prince Adegbite that for members of the 4th estate to carry out their functions effectively, journalists must be in sound heath

Some journalists who benefited from the outreach expressed delight at the exercise and thanked the union for organising the free medical checkup.

The free medical outrage was carried out by the union in collaboration with Ondo State Hospital management board and the state primary health care agency.
