EMBRACE LIFELONG LEARNING, DON TELLS ACHEIVERS UNIVERSITY GRADUANDS
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Prof. Joseph Odigure, has charged the graduands of Achievers University Owo, to be productive by engaging in lifelong learning after certification.
He pointed out the fact that very few people understand the importance of adapting, learning new skills and being actively engaged.
The Don stated this at the 10th Convocation Lecture of University.
While delivering the Convocation lecture entitled: ‘The Reality of University Education Objectives: Post-Convocation Life’, Prof. Odigure noted graduands must be independent in order to build sustainable personal life and society.
He explained that a life bereft of new skills, initiatives, will become the slave of time.
The COREN Registrar used the analogy of Adam in the bible to expound continuous learning process by stating that the first man was focused as his intelligence was never in doubt.
He said: “Today’s Convocation should be about your further learning and character development”
“There is a place for everyone and you have a place in history. A destiny to fulfill, but it all depends on you: the application of your belief in life depends on how you apply the life skills you have acquired”
“Never be deterred by the course or grade you are graduating with, they are not the entirety of your life journey. Reach for the fire within you. Never stop reinventing yourself through rigorous studies”
Amplifying the stance of Prof. Odigure, the founder and Pro Chancellor of the Institution, Dr. Bode Ayorinde, urged undergraduates to get certificate, make good grade and prepare for opportunities lurking around.
“It is sad when there are opportunities, but no certificates. I have approved 15 appointments this morning”
“Go for good grade and wait for opportunities, as character maketh a man. You need to add the totem of the institution which is integrity to your character”, Ayorinde said.
