Filling station attack: Ondo Police arrest suspect for killing two security guards

The Ondo state police command today paraded eleven suspects in connection with armed robbery attacks on filling stations in Akure, stealing of generators and defilement of minor.

Parading the suspects before newsmen in Akure, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami said one of the suspects Jide Adewale was arrested for robbing filling Stations on Ondo road in Akure where two security guards were shot dead few weeks ago.

The police also apprehended a 35year-old, Kelvin Abugu for defiling 9year- old girl while two boys, Akindele Olumide and Opeyemi Tosin, were arrested for stealing twenty-six generating sets at different locations in Akure metropolis.

The Police Commissioner who said the suspects would be charged court when judicial workers’ strike was called off, expressed deep concern over congestion at the police custody across Ondo state as a result of the ongoing nationwide strike by JUSUN.

Salami said, “ARMED ROBBERY: Jide Adewale arrested for attacking and robbing Petrol Station. On May 11, 2021 at about 0612hrs, one Ibrahim Usman, of AA Reno Petrol Station, Akure reported to the Police that his filling Station was attacked, and robbed of some undisclosed amount of money. On the strength of the report, operatives of Ondo State Police Command swung into action, and Jide Adewale was arrested.

“He has confessed to the
commission of the offence, meanwhile Ondo State Police Command is on the lookout for other members of the gang. Case will soon be charged
to court.

“DEFILEMENT:- 35years old Kelvin Abugu defiles 9years old of Blessing Emmanuel: On May 2, 2021 at about 1420hrs, Agnes Emmanuel reported to the Police that she saw her daughter passing out blood from her private
part and when asked, she said it was one Kelvin Abugu who inserted his hand and later his penis into her private part. He was immediately
arrested and has owned up to the offence. Case is ready for prosecution.

“STEALING:- With a report of stolen generators from one Akindele Olumide of Adedibu Street, Okuta-Elerinla, Akure, the Ondo State Police Command has recovered 26 other generating sets from one Opeyemi Tosin ‘m’ age 26years of Okuta-Elerinla Estate, Akure.

“Police investigations revealed that Opeyemi Tosin is a serial burglar and has confessed to the offence. He has also named two others as his accomplices. They are: – ThankGod James, ‘m’ age 22years and Sodiq Segun ‘m’ 23years. Case is ready for prosecution.

“SUMMARY OF ACHIEVEMENT/SUSPECTS ARRESTED Number of Suspects: Robbery (7), Stealing- Three (3), Defilement- One (1), Total Number of Suspects Arrested – Eleven (12). Items Recovered: Twenty six (26) generating sets and One Honda CRV Jeep,” Salami said.
