How 30 cows died mysteriously in my town —Akungba Monarch

Apprehension has gripped residents of Akungba Akoko and environ in Akoko North West Local Government area of Ondo State following the mysterious death of cows said to be more than 30.

A source in the university town, told SUNSHINETRUTH that the incident occurred on Monday evening at Ibaka area of the community.

The latest incident, was the third in the state after similar one in Ijare, Ifedore Local Government, where lightening struck 36 cows dead and another one at Ikare, in Akoko North East Local Government, where eight cows died mysteriously in 2019.

Alerting the people of the community about the incident, a witness, simply known as “Asiwaju Ojumo” advised the people to be wary of the source of meat they are buying from the market

He posted on the social media: “Good morning Akokos please some set of cows (about 30cows) naturally died without knowing what kill them in Akungba yesterday. Please guide your household not to buy cow meat in Akoko and its environment this week. God bless you.”

Speaking on the incident the traditional ruler of Akungba, the Alale, Oba Sunday Ajimo explained the cows belong to a Fulani man named Baba Sule, who had lived in the community for several years.

“The people came to me early this morning to inform me. When they said they suspected the water they drank. But when we got the stream, the fishes did not die.

“They also suspected the grass that they are but we discovered that the grass was not poisoned. We discovered that they died mysteriously,” the monarch said.

The traditional ruler said they have alerted health officers in the local government to ensure that they were not sold to members of the public.

The monarch said the people needed to be advised on the health implication of consuming meat from the dead cows because they may may be sold at give away prices.
