Oluwafemi Dennis Fadairo, Director of Administration to the President of the Senate, has donated toilet facilities to Medayese Primary School, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo state to end over 40years of open defecation in the school.
The facilities were on Wednesday commissioned for the use of students and members of staff of the school.
Fadairo, popularly known as FADA, said the project was a testimony of his commitment to the development of education in the state.
“You will recall that this year alone, more than 300 JAMB forms were given free of charge to our students in secondary schools in Akure North and South Local Government Areas,” he said.
The Senate President’s aide, who is an APC Chieftain in Akure South/North federal constituency, noted that toilets were very important in schools, saying apart from guaranteeing hygiene and good health, they encouraged school attendance and reduced dropouts.
Fadairo said: “It is probably for this reason that toilets are considered as one of the facilities that contribute to the creation of child-friendly schools.
“Children come to school and no toilet, how do you want them to ease themselves when nature calls? This can lead to open defecation and the resultant effects is a topic for another day.
“The plan of the Federal Government to end open defecation by 2025 could suffer a setback if schools do not have access to toilet facilities.”
He stated that his contributions to the development of Akure North and South stemmed from his nature and love for the people of the two local government areas.
“I want to correct the impression of our people that politicians only give out during election time. For me, I give out from time to time to my community,” he said.
He commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the giant strides of his government, describing the governor’s passion for service as legendary.
Fadairo said he had been working assiduously to complement the efforts of the state government within the limit of his resources.
He listed some of his interventions in both Akure North and South as grading of township roads, donation of transformers, provision of working tools to widows and revolving loans to market women.
He said youth employment was also on the front burner, promising to continue to do more to touch the lives of children.
Fadairo also gave a scholarship to a student of the school, Omosola Precious.
Omosola, who is the Head Students, impressed Fadairo and other dignitaries at the event with the presentation of her speech.
The pupil appreciated the good gesture of the Senate President’s aide, saying the school never had toilet facilities since it was created about 40years ago until now.
Mrs Sarah Dakoru, Headmistress of the school, also extolled the generosity of Fadairo, promising that the facilities would be put into good use.
Those who attended the event included the Chief Imam of Akure, Abdulhakeem Yayi Akorede; APC state vice-chairman (Central), Festus Aregbe; SSA to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ojo Oyewamide; former Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Kenneth Olawale; former House members, Tayo Abidakun and Baba Ayeyemi; and former Education Secretary, Elder Adu.
Others were the representative of the Ministry of Education and Technology, Rev. Adegbola; former APC state youth leaders, Enas Mohammed and Olutayo Babalayo; councillors, APC ward chairmen and other leaders and members of the ruling party.
